What are some other "schools", learning centers or intentional communities like what I'm talking about?

Nols and Outward Bound are not quite it, but even if you know about schools like these, please add them to the list.

In mexico I know of a retreat center where you can do work trade: www.mardejade.com/

Twin Towers on Stone Island is not a school, but it's a cool traveler hangout, and I learned a lot living there: anycities.com/ttowers/index.html#TOP

In Costa Rica there's two:

In Ojai, Cali I stayed at the Full Circle Farm: www.solomax.com/oct.24.3.html

My friend Peg is now living at: www.earthaven.org/

    Sea to Sky Outdoor School is here near me in BC on a small island called Keats. They run eco-ed and youth leadership programs from spring through summer to fall and offer them up to students as well as teachers. i have been there both for eco-ed training as well as a visiting facilitator of a Permaculture workshop most recently. These guys are a tight outfit and would have some great info for you i think.

    here is a course in northern california at heatwood school. its on organic farming and permaculture which i feel is the basis of everything due to it is a main source of our energy. food and how we get it.

    here is a cool place in argentina that is not currently doing anything but stay tuned because they will be. my friend was down there in december and said it was great. tons of knowledge trading.

    these are just a couple of things. there is a lot out there but there needs to be so much more. that is why your school will be a great addition to our community of folks we have growing here.

      Brett just sent this about Friends World Program:

      ++++++++++++++

      Hi Max,
      Here is the direct web page for the school www.southampton.liunet.edu/fw/
      I went there for four years, spent my first year in the US, first semester in Southampton, NY and the next semester on an intership in Washington D.C. working for Co-op America, a non-profit promoting socially and environmentally responsible products. THe next year I spent in Latin America, first semester in Costa Rica and then did an internship in Bolivia with a non-profit there that taught farmers and ranchers on the Altiplano new forms of agriculture (I focused on a adobe greenhouse project they had running). My third year I split between two centers, in the Fall I went to our center in Kenya (no longer exists) and did a brief 2 month internship in Tanzania working with a street children group. Then my second part of that year I went straight to India, which is based out of Bangalore, but I spent 1 1/2 months in Delhi studying a education program in a shanty town there. My final year I spent back in the US by choice to act as the student body president for that year. Everyone has a different experance in the program. If any questions I would be happy to answer them, I have a lot of contacts of alumni of the school as well if you want I can get them in contact with you. Hope this is helpful.
